Chef-Owned · Est. 2009

From Bologna to the river — a chef’s promise kept since 2009.

Marco Bellini trained at Alma Cucina in Bologna and opened Taverna at River’s Edge with his wife Giulia in 2009, on a single promise: cook only Italian, only from the region, only with the river as backdrop.

Fourteen years later, that promise still governs every plate. Seventy percent of what leaves the cucina is grown, raised, or made within ninety miles of our door — the rest is brought in by name, from the people Marco trained beside in Emilia-Romagna.

  • 70%of ingredients sourced within 90 miles
  • 54people on the Taverna team, including 4 full-time pasta makers
  • 1wood-fired hearth, imported from Forni Ceky in 2011

Three Things You Won’t Find Closer Than Forty Miles

Three reasons Taverna is unlike the other Italian kitchens in the valley.

  1. 01

Seven consecutive AAA Four Diamond years.

The only riverside Italian restaurant in the tri-county region to hold the designation from 2018 through 2024 — a quiet, independent audit of the entire evening, not just the plate.

  2. 02

    A 240-label, all-Italian wine program.

Curated by sommelier Elena Rossi, MS candidate — recognized by Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence every year since 2014, and named “Best Italian Wine List, Mid-Atlantic” by Wine & Spirits Today in 2023.

  3. 03

Nine fresh pastas, rolled on the marble every morning.

Four full-time pasta makers work the open cucina from 6 AM — tagliatelle, tortelli, ravioli di zucca, and five other shapes made daily for a single evening’s service. Nothing arrives by truck.

We came for our anniversary and left already planning the next visit. The river, the candles, the hand-rolled tortelli — it felt like being invited into someone’s home in Bologna, except someone had thought of every single detail.
